Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Credit Card Disclosure

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is providing friends and family of LASD inmates with the option of depositing funds to individual inmate trust accounts.  LASD in conjunction with Los Angeles County have contracted with Link2GovCorp. (Link2Gov) for a credit card payment program to provide this service.

Individuals who decide to deposit funds to inmate trust accounts by credit card will select the amount they wish to deposit on behalf of the inmate prior to being forwarded to a portion of LASD's website hosted by Link2Gov.  When the individual has been forwarded to this portion of LASD's website, they will be requested to furnish personal identifying information:

  • credit card number
  • expiration date
  • credit card holder information

Link2Gov has agreed to abide by this website's Privacy Policy in connection with providing this service.

LASD has required Link2Gov to take reasonable precautions to protect personally identifiable information collected or stored from LASD's website from loss, misuse or alteration.  Personally identifiable information submitted by users for purposes of making a deposit into an inmate trust account is transmitted by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.  SSL is a security technology designed to enable an individual's browser to send to, and receive, information from another server in an encrypted format.  The browser's security icon, usually located in the bottom status bar of the browser window, reflects the security condition of browser.  The lock icon indicates that the browser is communicating over a secured link.  All information provided to LASD and/or Link2Gov in this manner is stored securely, subject to legal disclosure requirements.

LASD and Link2Gov are required to provide select personal information (such as your checking account number, credit/debit card number and credit/debit account expiration date) to money transmission vendors to the extent necessary to process requests for deposit into an inmate trust account or to protect against fraud.  When a County application accepts credit/debit cards or other personal information for payment, it encrypts all ordering information, such as a user's name and credit/debit card number, in order to protect its confidentiality.  In some circumstances, LASD may be required by law to disclose certain personal information in accordance with the California Public Records Act or other legal requirements.

Link2Gov and LASD will charge a convenience fee to users to cover their cost of providing this service. This fee is a $1.99 for each deposit and users will be informed of the amount of the fee before they confirm the credit card payment. Users who decide to proceed and complete the transaction will receive a receipt number from Link2Gov as proof of the deposit. Users should also note that, following authorization of the credit card payment, Link2Gov will forward to the LASD only that information necessary for the LASD to properly credit the deposit to the inmates trust account. (i.e., inmate identifying information, payment amount, etc.)  LASD will not receive any personal credit card information, such as your credit card number or account status.

LASD does not indicate a preference for any credit card service provider, but presents such links as a convenience to users.  The decision to use or not to use the products or services offered by these companies is entirely up to the user and will not result in any special treatment from LASD.  Further, neither LASD nor the County of Los Angeles:
