Baccalaureate Degree Requirements

Students must complete a total of 120 to 132* units of course work, depending on your course of study.

This includes the 60 units of lower division credit received from a community college and 60 units of upper division course work from a major college or university.

Some Baccalaureate Degrees may require 64 to 68 units of upper division course work.

All lower division courses must be fully accredited and transferable to a four year school.

If its been over seven years since you received your associates degree, or since you completed your 60 plus units, you should have your transcripts certified prior to submitting them to the four year university.

You may take the lower division courses at a four year school, but the price is exorbitant compared to a community college.

Contact the admissions office at the community college(s) that you attended and have them "Breadth Certify" your transcripts to the calendar year that you graduated or took the courses.

This is imperative if its been over seven years because the course requirements may have changed, and you may not get full credit by the university unless the courses are certified.

Most universities may require you to take a WPE, Writing Proficiency Exam.

If you have not completed your lower division English and Math requirements, California State Universities will only allow you to take a maximum of 24 upper division units until you have met that requirement.

This requirement also applies to private universities but the number of allowable units varies from school to school
