How do I get started, I have been out of school for years and have some units through the academy?

Associate Degree Requirements

Associates Degree Requirements

60 Units are needed in order to graduate with an Associates Degree:

30 units in lower division requirements of Math, English, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
30 units in the desired degree core classes and electives.

All units must meet the lower division requirements for an Associates Degree and should all be transferable to a four year institution.

Math and English Skills Assessment tests are required to receive proper placement in the designated and required core classes. You may place in a lower math or English class, all leading up to taking Math 101, and English 101 or higher level transferable courses.

Academy Units

College grants 15 units in Criminal Justice if you went to the South Academy. Units are granted via the institution with jurisdiction over your academy class.

ELA College gives 15 units for AJ101, Basic Police Academy. These units may be used to satisfy the elective units for the Criminal Justice degree.

They may also be substituted for core classes in the Criminal Justice degree. ELA may substitute three units each in AJ-1, Introduction to Law Enforcement, AJ-2, Introduction to Patrol Procedures and other core courses in Administration of Justice.

ELA College also offers three units for anyone who has gone through patrol school, as AJ-6, Patrol Procedures. They also offer three units for Sergeant Supervisory School as AJ-160, Police Supervision.

ELA College also offers certificates in "Police Supervision" if you have completed patrol school. They also offer certificates in "Police Dispatcher," and other areas in the Criminal Justice field.

College of the Canyons grants 10 units of credit in Criminal Justice if you attended the North Academy.

These schools are strategically located throughout the County area and may serve a vast majority of our employees.

East Los Angeles College
As stated previously you can take the on-site courses or you can attend ELAC. They offer regular and accelerated courses in Business, as well as other degree curriculums.

ELAC also has 25 classes offered via the internet.

Core courses offered online include Psychology 1, Philosophy 1, Speech 101, and Accounting 21.

Electives and other degree courses offered online include , Computer Science Technology, and Administration of Justice 196 (report writing).

Orange Coast Community College
Orange Coast Community College has a PACE (Progressive Adult Continuing Education) Program, which means classes are accelerated at nine weeks instead of eighteen weeks in length.

Coastline Community College

College of the Canyons
Grants 10 units of credit in Criminal Justice if you attended the North Academy.Few online courses, mostly in personal development at this time.They have PACE (Progressive Adult Continuing Education) which means classes are accelerated at nine weeks instead of eighteen weeks in length.Currently several Universities also have courses offered on College of the Canyons campus. California State University at Bakersfield, offering Baccalaureate Degrees in Business and Nursing. Antelope Valley College
They offer a limited amount of online classes. Several in computer science and a few core classes such as Sociology 101, Accounting 101, and Management 101.California State University at Bakersfield is also on their campus offering Baccalaureate Degrees in Business.They have a PACE Program (Progressive Adult Continuing Education) which means classes are accelerated at nine weeks instead of eighteen weeks in length.Located at 3041 W. Cerritos College
They have an extensive array of online and telecourses for distance learning.Some of the online and telecourses may require you to take the mid-term or final exam on campus.They have several on campus scholarships.One is the Stephen Blair memorial Scholarship given to outstanding students in the criminal justice degree program.
