Inmate
Services Unit is part of the Correctional Services Division
and was initially conceived to oversee the Inmate Welfare
Fund. The duties of the unit have evolved to include contract
monitoring and maintenance, review and recommendation of potential
inmate programs and services, procurement of inmate supplies
along with the development of new revenue sources. The unit
also acts as liaison between the Inmate Welfare Commission
and the Sheriff's Department and oversees the Inmate Chaplaincy
Program.
The
Mission of the Inmate Services Unit is to sustain meaningful
assistance to the inmate population of the Los Angeles County
Jail system by reviewing and making recommendations to the
Sheriff for funding, education, recreation, vocational training,
counseling, and community transition. Funds will be allocated
for innovative pilot programs in a continuing search for new
ways to help inmates become contributing members of society.
