Medical Services Bureau provides a comprehensive orientation to all newly hired personnel within Medical Services and promotes ongoing education to all members in accordance with the Policy and Procedures of the Bureau. It is the goal of Staff Development to maintain competency and functionality for nurses in the correctional environment with the scope and standards of practice in the correctional facilities and the Nursing Practice Act.

Staff Development has written nineteen standardized procedures that will benefit patients from enhanced assessment, timely intervention, and standardized clinical approach. This will result in the prevention of disease, deterioration of patients’ health status, and decrease potential lawsuits. In addition, standardized procedures will eliminate over scheduling on the physician’s line which saves time and effort on part of the physicians, RNPs and RNs.
