The mission of O.S.S. (Operation Safe Streets) is to take a leadership role in reducing gang violence and positively impacting the quality of life in our communities through the vigorous application of innovative law enforcement techniques. This concept is based upon ethical practices and effective strategies that endorse the use of extensive prevention, intervention and suppression techniques that align the energies of families, schools, neighborhoods, community-based organizations and other law enforcement agencies.
O.S.S. will work with our stations to improve the delivery of these services to the community through effective case management, legal and appropriate information sharing, an aggressive enforcement stance and community collaboration.
O.S.S. is also working with the Department of Children and Family Services in an effort to provide interdiction services when children are at risk from the elements of gang violence. D.C.F.S. will be notified when our personnel discover loaded firearms or narcotics within the reach of children or when the house is used as a “hang out” for gang members.
O.S.S. is also working with the Pacific Institute through “A Better LA” to provide classes to gang members to teach them the tools needed to make appropriate and effective cognitive decisions in their everyday life, so they can avoid the harmful and deadly decisions they are currently making.
O.S.S. is also a participant in the Los Angeles Gang Information Network (LARGIN) which is a clearinghouse for gang crimes within Los Angeles County.
