The Contract Law Enforcement Bureau is responsible for the administration and oversight of the Sheriff’s Department’s Contract Law Enforcement Program. These combined contracts account for almost $400 million in revenue. Working closely with the various station commanders and city representatives, the Bureau monitors all contract services to ensure proper service levels are met, and provides staff support to contract clients and Department Executives in areas relating to those contract services. The Bureau administers the specialized law enforcement contracts for regional transit agencies, making the Sheriff’s Department the second largest transit policing agency in the nation, and the contract with the Los Angeles Community Colleges, the largest community college district in the nation. The Bureau administers the law enforcement contracts for the Superior Courts throughout Los Angeles County, and contracts with state and federal agencies to staff and operate dedicated custody facilities. Additionally, the Bureau provides liaison to the Los Angeles County Chief Administrative Officer’s Office of Unincorporated Services in monitoring service levels to the 1 million residents throughout unincorporated Los Angeles County, in addition to the 1.7 million residents in the contract cities. Lastly, the Bureau conducts studies and prepares reports for government agencies requesting information regarding contract law enforcement services. For those entities which elect to contract, the Bureau coordinates the merger of existing law enforcement agencies and the transition of policing services to the Sheriff’s Department.
