SHARON A. MADISON PROMOTED
TO CAPTAIN
Sharon A. Madison, a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department, has been promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and has assumed command of the Family Crimes Bureau. Investigations of child abuse and physical abuse is one of the missions of the Family Crimes Bureau.
Captain Madison's law enforcement career began in July 1975, when she attended the Sheriff's Department Training Academy. After she graduated from the Academy, she was initially assigned to the Sybil Brand Institute for Women and later transferred to Men's Central Jail. She lateraled to the Inglewood Police Department for a brief period and in August 1977, she was re-instated into the Department and returned to Sybil Brand Institute. As a deputy she worked assignments at Lennox Station, Family Crimes Bureau and Pre-Employment. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1989 and returned to Sybil Brand Institute. As a Sergeant she worked Transit Services Bureau, Pre-Employment, and Internal Affairs Bureau. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1996 and was assigned to the Men's Central Jail. As a Lieutenant she worked Lomita Station, Training Bureau, and the Family Crimes Bureau.
Captain Madison is completing her Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Phoenix, through the Department's LASD University program. She has college credits from Arizona State University, San Jose State University, University of Southern California, and El Camino College.
Captain Madison resides in Gardena. She is a single parent of three sons, Travis, 34, a paramedic; Aaron, 31, a professional track and field athlete; and Stephen, 13, a student . She is a Sunday school teacher at Bible Baptist Church in Gardena, volunteers as a counselor to adolescents at a center in Norwalk and conducts readings to 3rd graders at a local Gardena elementary school. She enjoys attending her son's track meets and spends time fishing with her 13-year-old son.
