EARL M. SHIELDS PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN

Earl M. Shields, a 24-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and has assumed command of the Scientific Services Bureau.

Captain Shields’ career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1981, when he worked as an “off-the-streeter” assigned to Recruitment before attending the Department’s Training Academy as a member of Class #208. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff, he held assignments at the Sybil Brand Institute for Women, Men’s Central Jail, Temple Station, Custody Headquarters Operations and Planning Unit. Captain Shields was promoted to Sergeant in October 1987 and worked Men’s Central Jail, Norwalk Station, Contract Law Enforcement Bureau, Fiscal Administration-Grant Unit, Office of Administrative Services Division Headquarters, and Technical Services Division Headquarters. Captain Shields was promoted to Lieutenant in April 2000 and worked East Los Angeles Station, LASD2 Audit Team, Administrative Services Division Headquarters, and Personnel Administration Operations.

Captain Shields earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice from Pasadena City College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles. Captain Shields resides in the city of San Gabriel. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lori, and their children Evan, 11, and Nikki, 10.
