JOHN M. WITT PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN

John M. Witt, a 27-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and has assumed command of the Department’s Palmdale Station.

Captain Witt joined the Sheriff's Department in 1976, graduating from the Department’s Training Academy as a Deputy Sheriff. As a Deputy, he served at the Men’s Central Jail, Headquarters Narcotics Bureau, Records and Statistics Bureau, Personnel Bureau, Lakewood Station, and the Office of the Undersheriff. In 1985, he was promoted to Sergeant and went on to serve at Carson Station, the Office of the Undersheriff, and the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1989, Captain Witt took on assignments at the Pitchess Honor Rancho, Ranch Facility, Carson Station, Biscailuz Center, Records and Identification Bureau, Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau, Inmate Reception Center, Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Transit Services Bureau, and the Office of the Undersheriff.

Captain Witt holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles. He resides in Glendale with his wife, Karen, and has a teenage son and daughter. Captain Witt enjoys basketball, reading mysteries, going to USC football games, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoys running, and has completed two Honolulu Marathons.
