EDWARD B. HITCHCOCK PROMOTED TO COMMANDER
Edward B. Hitchcock, a 30-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca. Commander Hitchcock will help direct the newly created Special Operations Division and will oversee various specialized units.
Commander Hitchcock's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1971 when he attended the Sheriff's Department's Training Academy. As a Deputy and later as a Sergeant, Commander Hitchcock was assigned to East Los Angeles Station, Recruit Training Bureau, and Special Enforcement Bureau's Emergency Services Detail. In 1988, he was promoted to Lieutenant, and held assignments at Firestone Station, Recruit Training Bureau, Advanced Training Bureau, and Professional Standards and Training Division Headquarters. He was also the aide to the Assistant Sheriff. After being promoted to the rank of Captain in 1996, he worked as the unit commander at both the Training Bureau and Lomita Station.
Commander Hitchcock is President of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Athletic Association. He is also the President of both the California Police and Fire Games and the World Police and Fire Games Federations.
Commander Hitchcock holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration from Pepperdine University. He resides in Seal Beach and is married to Barbara, his wife of 31 years. Commander Hitchcock has a daughter, Lynnae, 30, who is a musician, and a son, Bryan, 28, an account executive. In his spare time, Commander Hitchcock enjoys recreational and competitive sports, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family.
