ALEXANDER R. YIM PROMOTED TO COMMANDER
Alexander R. Yim, a 22-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, has been promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca, and assumed command of a section of Correctional Services Division. The division is composed of the Inmate Reception Center and Century Regional Detention Facility, and oversees inmate support programs designed to address rehabilitative opportunities.
Commander Yim’s law enforcement career began in August of 1982 when he worked “off-the-street” at the Personnel/Recruitment Unit. He attended and completed the Training Academy in February 1983. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Hall of Justice Jail, before transferring to Carson Station in October of 1983. Between June of 1986 and January of 1988, Commander Yim was assigned to patrol assignments at Industry Station, San Dimas Station, and Walnut Station. After working several different patrol assignments, he accepted an investigator position at Narcotics Bureau. Additionally, he worked in a supervisory capacity at the Hall of Justice Jail and Court Services Headquarters.
Commander Yim returned to Carson Station as a newly promoted Sergeant in March of 1992. In March of 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served as a Watch Commander at the Pitchess Detention Center-North Facility and the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. Commander Yim attained the rank of Captain in April 2000 and remained at Walnut/ Diamond Bar Station serving as the Unit Commander.
Commander Yim is currently attending California State University, Long Beach, to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies. He resides in Chino Hills with his wife, Janis, of 28 years. He has three children, Alyia, 26, Brent, 20, and Lindsay, 15. In his spare time, Commander Yim enjoys golfing, weight training and spending time with his wife and family, including his two beautiful granddaughters, Kailey June and Alexa Rose
