MICHAEL K. KWAN PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN
Michael K. Kwan, a 26-year veteran
of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s
Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca
and assumed command of the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. The Walnut/Diamond Bar
Station is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the contract
cities of Walnut and Diamond Bar, as well as to the surrounding unincorporated
area of Rowland Heights.
Captain Kwan’s career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1977,
when he attended the Department’s Training Academy. Upon graduation as
a Deputy Sheriff, he held various assignments in Custody Division and Carson
Station, where he worked as a field training officer and auto theft detective.
He was promoted to Sergeant in 1989 and served at Lennox Station, Traffic Services
Detail and the Civil Litigation Unit. In 1996, Captain Kwan was promoted to Lieutenant.
As a Lieutenant, he worked at the Century Regional Detention Facility, Lomita
Station, Narcotics Bureau and Medical Services Bureau.
Captain Kwan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles. He resides in Orange County with his wife Diane and has three children, Tiffany, Jameson and Erin. In his spare time, Captain Kwan enjoys golfing, volunteering at church, spending time with his family and participating in competitive sports.
