RAYMOND H. PEAVY PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN

Raymond H. Peavy, a 35-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and assumed command of the Homicide Bureau. The Homicide Bureau is responsible for investigating unexpected and suspicious deaths, deputy or officer-involved shootings resulting in fatalities or injuries, and missing persons cases. Captain Peavy’s career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1968 where he worked “off-the-street” at the Men’s Central Jail. In 1969 he entered the Sheriff’s Training Academy. After graduation, his first assignment as a Deputy Sheriff was working patrol at Lakewood Station. He later transferred to the Vice Bureau, where he worked for 13 years. In 1983, he promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Lennox Station. He was also assigned to Marina Del Rey Station and the Homicide Bureau. He worked as the Chief’s Aide at Court Services Division prior to his promotion to Lieutenant in 1989. Captain Peavy transferred to Biscailuz Center and later to Lomita Station. In October of 1993, he returned to Homicide Bureau where he promoted to Captain and assumed command of the Bureau. Captain Peavy obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Fine Arts and is currently working toward his Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies at California State University, Long Beach. He resides in Southern Los Angeles County with his wife, Diane of 39 years. They have two children: Robyn, 37, a homemaker and Matthew, 35, who is in sales. In his spare time Captain Peavy is an avid collector of record albums. Captain Peavy states “I’m so fortunate to have had the pleasure of working at so many great assignments, with so many excellent folks. I’ve now realized my ultimate goal, and I look forward to commanding the greatest group of investigators and support personnel anywhere.”
