SHERIFF LEE BACA OFFICIATES AT
GRADUATION OF ACADEMY CLASS #349

Fourteen female and eighty-four male Deputy Sheriffs, as well as eleven male Officers from the Beverly Hills, Gardena, Glendale, Los Angeles Port, Signal Hill, and Simi Valley Police Departments, graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Training Academy in Whittier during ceremonies held on Thursday, August 17, 2006, at the Sheriff’s Training Academy and Regional Services (STARS) Center.

Signal Hill Police Chief Thomas Sonoff delivered inspirational remarks to the graduates and their guests.

As part of the graduation, a badge-pinning ceremony was conducted, with the new Deputies and Officers receiving their badges from a family member or loved one. After receiving their graduation certificates, the graduates were officially sworn in as peace officers by Sheriff Lee Baca.

In a special segment of the ceremony, Officer Tyler Blondi of the Beverly Hills Police Department, a resident of Redondo Beach, was named the Honor Recruit for Class #349. This award is given to the recruit who achieves the highest numerical average based upon leadership qualities, social relations and personal traits, practical performance, academics, marksmanship, and physical performance throughout the training period. Additionally, Officer John Palucci of the Los Angeles Port Police, a resident of Anaheim, was acknowledged for graduating with the highest academic score.
