Sheriff Lee
Baca is inviting the residents of Los Angeles County to consider a
second career with one of the largest law enforcement
agencies in the nation. This unique invitation to join the Los Angeles
County Sheriff’s Department will afford men and women the opportunity
to make a difference in their community to do so by becoming a Los Angeles
County Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is honored to have 750 active
reserve deputies. Representing expertise and experience in a variety of professions,
this is one of the largest Reserve Bureaus in California. Sheriff Baca continuously
seeks qualified community members to join in our successful Reserve Deputy Sheriff
program. Reserve Deputies receive the same rewarding training as full time deputies
and work alongside them in every aspect of the Department’s operations.
Upon graduating from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Reserve Academy, Reserve
Deputies go directly to their assignment of choice, without serving in the county
jails.
The Reserve Forces family is an integral part of the Department, fulfilling many
of the roles handled by full-time sworn deputies. As volunteers, Reserve Deputy
Sheriffs spend time working challenging street patrols, enforcing traffic laws
as a motorcycle deputy, participating in a Mounted Posse, or even teaming up
in Search and Rescue units. Other satisfying assignments exist in our Aero Bureau,
Detective Bureau, Administrative Operations and Transit Services.
Reserve Deputies help put more eyes and ears on the streets, reducing criminal
activity. Even off-duty, many reserve deputies have apprehended criminals that
were either fleeing from a crime scene or trying to evade the police.
As part of Sheriff Baca's plan to put a cop on every street, a public service
announcement (PSA) is being distributed to local radio stations to help draw
attention to the reserve program.
