SHERIFF LEE BACA HONORS
LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HEROES

On Wednesday, September 6, 2006, Sheriff Lee Baca presented members of his Department with highest honors at the annual Medal of Valor and Meritorious Conduct Awards Ceremony in Montebello, California. The award recipients, who performed courageous acts when confronted by circumstances beyond the normal course of their duties, can truly be called heroes. Before an audience of over 600 Department personnel and their guests, the Sheriff presented 49 Medals of Valor and Meritorious Conduct Awards.

The awards ceremony, sponsored by Galpin Motors, was held at the Quiet Cannon restaurant in the City of Montebello. The Master of Ceremonies, KTTV Fox 11 News Anchor Christine Devine, narrated the awards, recounting the heroic actions of each award recipient. All of the incidents described shared one common thread: leaders, characteristic of the men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, placed in extraordinary situations, acted above and beyond the call of duty and disregarded their own personal safety in the face of immediate life-threatening peril for the sake of potentially saving the lives of others.
