RICHARD W. SHAW PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN
Richard W. Shaw, a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca, and assumed command of the Temple Station. Temple Station provides law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of Arcadia, Duarte, East Pasadena, El Monte, Monrovia, San Gabriel, and Whittier Narrows, and the contract cities of Temple City, South El Monte, Rosemead, Duarte and La Puente.
Captain Shaw's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1978, when he attended the Department's Training Academy. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff in 1978, his assignments took him to Men's Central Jail, Lynwood Station, and Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. In 1986, he was promoted to Sergeant and went on to serve at Pitchess Detention Center-East Facility, East Los Angeles Station, Field Operations Region I Headquarters, and the Office of the Sheriff. Following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1994, he took on assignments at Pitchess Detention Center-East Facility, Temple Station, Field Operations Support Services, and Field Operations Region I Headquarters.
Captain Shaw holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice from Los Angeles Valley College. Captain Shaw served four years in the United States Air Force and ended his tour of duty at the rank of Sergeant. He resides in Santa Clarita with his wife of eight years, Cindy. They have two daughters Hilary, 22, a college student, and Carly, 13, a junior high school student. In his spare time, Captain Shaw enjoys aerobic walking, jogging, boating, waterskiing, and traveling.
