DAVID J. LONG PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN

 

David Long, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca, and has assumed command of the West Hollywood Station. West Hollywood Station provides law enforcement services to the city of West Hollywood, and the unincorporated areas of Universal City, Franklin Canyon Park, and the Federal Building Enclave in Westwood.

Captain Long's law enforcement career began in 1973 when he attended the Los Angeles County Marshal's Training Academy and graduated as a Deputy Marshal. In 1990, he promoted to Sergeant, and then Lieutenant in 1993. In 1996, after the Marshal's Department merged with the Sheriff's Department, he was transferred to West Hollywood Station as the Watch Commander and Detective Bureau Lieutenant. In April of 1999, he transferred to North County Correctional Facility as the Operations Lieutenant. In April of 2001, he transferred to Custody Support Services, and in 2002, was assigned to the Office of the Assistant Sheriff, as Dennis Dahlman's Aide.

Captain Long resides in Ventura County with his wife of 27 years, Jenny. He is the father of two grown children, Scott, 23, who graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis this Spring, and Jenny, 20, who has completed her sophomore year at the University of Southern California. Captain Long graduated from Pepperdine University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration. In 1996, he graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing golf, and exploring the outdoors while camping and hiking.
