ROBERT L. BINKLEY PROMOTED TO COMMANDER
Robert L. Binkley, 31-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca, and was assigned to Field Operations Region III. In this new position he will oversee the operations of several patrol stations in the East and West San Gabriel Valley, which includes the City of Industry, La Puente, Valinda, and La Habra Heights areas.
Commander Binkley's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1971 after graduating from the Sheriff's Training Academy class 152. As a Deputy Sheriff, he held assignments at the Men's Central Jail, Lennox Station and the Recruit Training Bureau. Upon being promoted to Sergeant in 1985, Commander Binkley worked in a patrol assignment at Lynwood Station and also supervised the Department's S.A.N.E. (Substance Abuse and Narcotic Education) Unit, followed by a return to the Recruit Training Bureau. When he promoted to Lieutenant in 1990, Commander Binkley was assigned to the Men's Central Jail and then returned to a patrol assignment at Industry Station. After a four-year assignment with the Sheriff's Youth Foundation, Commander Binkley was promoted to Captain in 1999 and took command of Industry Sheriff's Station.
Commander Binkley has a degree in Police Science from Long Beach City College. He is married to his wife of 33 years, Dianna, and has three adult children, Jennifer, Kristen, Leslie and four grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys a round of golf, traveling and jazz music.
