WILLIAM C. BENGTSON PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN

 

William C. Bengtson, a 32-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca, and has assumed command of the Data Systems Bureau. The Bureau is responsible for maintaining the Department's computer hardware systems.

Captain Bengtson's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1970, when he attended the Training Academy. Shortly after his academy graduation he served in the United States Army, showing his dedication to community and country. After returning from the service, he was assigned to Wayside Honor Rancho. As a Deputy he also worked at East Los Angeles Station, Patrol Division East Headquarters, and Contract Law Enforcement Bureau. In 1978, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and assigned to Field Operations Region North Headquarters until his transfer to Data Systems Bureau. He subsequently transferred to Temple Station in 1983. In 1985, he transferred to the Technical Services Division Headquarters and worked there until his promotion to Lieutenant in 1988. As a Lieutenant, his assignments included Pitchess Honor Rancho, Mira Loma Detention Facility, Custody Division Headquarters, Santa Clarita Valley Station, Communications and Fleet Management Bureau, Inspectional Services, and Los Angeles Regional Crime Information System (LARCIS) Project Director.

Captain Bengtson received the Department's Meritorious Service Award for the successful implementation of the Los Angeles Regional Crime Information System. He is particularly proud of his participation in the development of the Report Management and Crime Analysis technology that has assisted the Department in the New Age of crime fighting and in the apprehension of criminals.

Captain Bengtson holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Science Degree in Business Administration/Management Science from California State University, Northridge.

Captain Bengtson resides in Ventura County with his wife of 30 years, Ramona, and has a son, Matthew, 22, who is an engineering major. In his spare time, Captain Bengtson enjoys woodwork, hiking, fishing, hunting, and his annual mission work in Mexico.
