LYNDA R. CASTRO PROMOTED TO COMMANDER
Lynda R. Castro, a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has been promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca and has been assigned as one of the Commander's of the Department. In this assignment, Commander Castro will serve on the Risk Review, Performance Mentoring and Executive Force Review Committees. Additional responsibilities will include to liaison with the Military Activation Committee, to develop strategies for problem solving the critical issues identified by the Executive Planning Council and to serve as the personnel Commander for the Executive Offices.
Commander Castro's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1977. After graduating from the Training Academy as a Deputy Sheriff, she worked at various assignments, including Sybil Brand Institute, Industry Station, and the Sheriff's Information Bureau. Upon being promoted to Sergeant in 1987, Commander Castro worked at Walnut and San Dimas Stations, Sheriff's Information Bureau, and Lennox Station. Following her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1991, she took on assignments at Sybil Brand Institute, Transit Services Bureau, East Los Angeles Station, Recruit Training Bureau, and Century Station. Commander Castro promoted to Captain in 2000 and assumed command of the Pitchess Detention Center, South Facility, followed by West Hollywood Station.
Commander Castro received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the Union Institute in 1996. She resides in Hermosa Beach with her husband, Richard, and between them have five grown children and four grandsons. In her spare time, Commander Castro enjoys running, reading and traveling. Commenting on her career with the Sheriff's Department, she stated, "I am excited to take the diverse assignments and experiences from throughout my career working with public safety as well as sensitivity and human issues to move forward globally throughout the Department."
