R. DOYLE CAMPBELL NAMED CHIEF OF OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY

R. Doyle Campbell, a 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently named Chief of the Department's Office of Homeland Security by Sheriff Lee Baca. The Office of Homeland Security is responsible for anti-terrorism efforts at the local, county level. Additionally, this office oversees the Department's specialized operations such as: emergency and disaster response, gang investigations, air operations, special weapons, search and rescue, community policing, reserve forces and law enforcement partnerships.

Chief Campbell began his illustrious career with the Sheriff's Department in 1973, when he attended the Department's Training Academy. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff in 1974, he held various line assignments in the patrol and custody divisions and served as a media liaison deputy at Sheriff's Information Bureau. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1980, and went on to work at Lennox Station, Norwalk Station, Training Bureau, and Administrative Division Headquarters. In 1985, Chief Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and took on assignments at the Sybil Brand Institute for Women, San Dimas Station, Walnut Station, Narcotics Bureau, Lakewood Station, and worked as the aide in the Office of the Assistant Sheriff. In 1999, Chief Campbell was promoted to the rank of Captain and assumed command of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. In 2000, Chief Campbell was promoted to the rank of Commander and served as Sheriff Baca's Executive Assistant.

As Chief of the Office of Homeland Security, Chief Campbell is involved with all aspects of local homeland security for the County of Los Angeles and sits as a commissioner on the Los Angeles County Emergency Preparedness Commission.

Additionally, he serves as the Department's Emergency Coordinator and acts as the Sheriff's Department Liaison to the federal government for all matters relating to homeland security and the ongoing anti-terrorism effort.

Chief Campbell holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Rio Hondo College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. He resides in the City of Whittier with his wife, Mary, who is a Lieutenant on the Sheriff's Department assigned to the Office of Administrative Services. In his spare time, Chief Campbell enjoys golf, snow skiing, running, and attending hockey games.
