MICHAEL R. MC DERMOTT PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN
Michael R. McDermott, a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and assigned to Administrative Services Division, Financial Programs Bureau.
Captain McDermott's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1974, as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff, he was assigned to Wayside Honor Rancho - Maximum Security, Service and Enforcement Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Lennox Station, and the Advanced Officer Training Unit at the Training Bureau. Captain McDermott was promoted to Sergeant in 1983 and was assigned to Men's Central Jail, Norwalk Station, and Field Operations Region III Headquarters. Following his promotion to Lieutenant in 1989, he held assignments at the Inmate Reception Center, Norwalk Station, Advanced Training Bureau, and Field Operations Region III Headquarters.
Captain McDermott holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Management from the University of Redlands. He resides in Yorba Linda with his wife, Bernadine, and their daughter, Lisa, 14, a student at Esperanza High School. In his spare time, Captain McDermott enjoys bicycling and researching his family's heritage. He is an avid reader of western novels, enjoys traveling, especially throughout the Western United States, and collects Native American pottery.
