Press Release

LOS ANGELES SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RECEIVES
CORRECTIONAL TREATMENT CENTER CERTIFICATION

Sheriff Lee Baca is pleased to announce that as of October 1, 2004, the Los Angeles County Jail system has earned a State of California, Department of Health Services, Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) License, making it the only county jail system in the state to have achieved such certification. The Department underwent rigorous scrutiny for several years by the Department of Health Services before it was granted this license.

The Department’s inpatient treatment center is now the largest CTC licensed facility throughout California and illustrates Sheriff Baca’s commitment in providing quality healthcare within the correctional environment. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is tasked with providing healthcare services to more than 17,500 inmates. A great majority within this population tend to have numerous, preexisting health problems that are directly related to poor physical conditioning, drug addiction, and mental health issues, to name a few.

Sheriff Baca is extremely proud of the men and women assigned to the Correctional Services Division. A special recognition is in order for the Department’s Medical Services Bureau, who worked with tremendous energy in fulfilling this benchmark achievement.
