THOMAS P. ANGEL PROMOTED TO COMMANDER

Thomas P. Angel, a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca and assigned to Field Operations Region III. He is one of two commanders, under the direction of Chief Marvin O. Cavanaugh, who are responsible for eight Sheriff's Stations, 16 contract cities and a very diverse and complex unincorporated county area.

Commander Angel's career with the Sheriff's Department began in 1976, when he entered the Sheriff's Training Academy. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff in 1977, his first assignments were Men's Central Jail, Transportation Bureau, and Temple Station. In 1986, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to West Hollywood Station. In 1989 he was selected as a team leader with the Special Enforcement Bureau. Following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1991, he took on assignments at North County Correctional Facility, East Los Angeles Station, and Field Operations Region I Headquarters. Commander Angel promoted to Captain in 1999 and was assigned to East Los Angeles Station for four years.

Commander Angel served in the United States Air Force for 39 months, from 1971 to 1974. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles and he is currently pursuing a Master's Degree from California State University, Long Beach. He resides in Upland with his wife, Toni. They have two children, Lisa, a junior at California State University, Long Beach and Eric, a high school senior.
