MARILYN ELIZABETH BAKER PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN
Marilyn Elizabeth Baker, a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has been promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and has assumed command of the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
Captain Baker's career with the Sheriff's Department began in August 1978, and upon graduation from the Academy, she was assigned to the Sybil Brand Institute. She transferred to Carson Station and then to the Training Bureau before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1987. As a Sergeant, she worked Lomita Station and the Substance Abuse Narcotics Education (SANE) Unit. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1994 and was assigned to the Substance Abuse Narcotics Education (SANE) Unit, Sybil Brand Institute, Lomita Station, Homicide Bureau, and Office of the Undersheriff.
Captain Baker is completing her Bachelor of Science Degree from California State University, Long Beach, through the Department's LASD University program. She also attended Los Angeles Harbor College where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts.
Captain Baker resides in Signal Hill with her husband Dennis. She is a private pilot and in her spare time, she enjoys flying, reading, fishing, snorkeling, and playing sports. She has been a member of the Department's Women's Volleyball Team for twenty years. She coordinates and supports the Women's Running Team and is a member of the Department's Boxing Committee.
