The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is the largest Sheriff Department in the United States of America. Our Department services the diverse communities throughout Los Angeles County including ninety-four (94) consulate offices. Los Angeles consists of communities from all over the world. Many of these communities have the highest number of citizens or visitors outside of their own countries. Therefore, it is imperative for our personnel to understand as many cultures as possible in order to serve the community well.
Our Department established a Cultural Exchange Program enabling our Department personnel to participate in learning and touring of different countries. In the past three years, we have visited Australia, Cambodia, China, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In these tours, we visited their respective police agencies to learn about their operations and facilities.
The Cultural Exchange Program is a voluntary program. Los Angeles County and the Sheriff’s Department are not responsible for any mishaps including personal injury or property loss. Everyone is encouraged to carry his/her own related insurances including health coverage.
As the program’s purpose is to expose Department members to the different cultures of our global village, all Department members who joined the trip must attend the visit to the hosting country’s official visits, such as police agency or governmental representatives. These events are the opportunity for us to get familiar with the cultures we are visiting. For family members and friends, they have an option to disembark from the group activity under these circumstances. Alternative program will be suggested but may not be provided.
