To join the program, one of the party members must be a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department employee (Sworn or Professional). We will not accept any individual from outside of our Department unless s/he is sponsored by our Department member.
As a sponsoring member, s/he is taking the responsibility for all related matters prior to and during the trip, including etiquette and finance of that person.
The Cultural Exchange Program is a voluntary program. Los Angeles County and the Sheriff’s Department are not responsible for any mishaps including personal injury or property loss. Everyone should carry his/her own related insurances including health coverage.
As the program’s purpose is to expose Department members to the different cultures of our global village, all Department members who joined the trip must attend the visit to the hosting country’s official visits, such as police agency or governmental representatives. These events are the opportunity for us to get familiar with the cultures we are visiting. For family members and friends, they have an option to disembark from the group activity under these circumstances. Alternative program will be suggested but may not be provided.
As the members of our Department should realized that this is a Department sanctioned activity, all of the Department policy and procedure apply to our daily activities during the trip. The professional demeanor must be observed while enjoying the group activities. While enjoying the free times from the group, remember that we continue to represent the Department and should behave accordingly.
There are many people who are joining the program without prior experiences with the group. It is imperative to understand that each individual could affect the group activities. Therefore, everyone must observe the basic courtesy by attending the events on time, tardiness will cause the loss of precious times for the group activities or late to prearranged events. Likewise, if you staying behind later than the group, you must let the team leaders know so that you can be accounted for. Don’t stay around a little longer because the group will not wait for you, everyone will know where to return to if he/she is lost.
Team leaders are selected based on his/her willingness to forfeit some of their personnel enjoyment so that the groups can work together. They are also selected because they have the ability to work with different people. Therefore, though we continue to respect the rank and file, the team leaders shall be respected and instructions followed.
Whenever a group member has any issue with the tour/activity, he/she should notify the team leader so that a resolution can be achieved. If the issue is not addressed by the team leader, ask the team leader to discussed the issue with the coordinators. All team leaders and coordinators will try their best to address any issues that require attentions.
Remember – we join the Cultural Exchange Program to learn about other cultures and have fun learning them. Don’t spoil the experiences for yourself or others.
The program director reserve the rights to refuse any applicant’s participation.
