Support
The Santa
Clarita Sheriff's Station AIR-29 provides the highest level
of technology and support for the ground Deputies. The helicopter
that flies out of Santa Clarita Station is equipped with advanced
equipment such as:
FLIR
Device (Forward Looking Infrared) The FLIR can "See in
the dark" and senses anything from body heat to the heat
of car engines. This device is not only good in finding hiding
suspects, but also provides an important tool in finding lost
people in areas not accessible by other vehicles.
Spot Lighting Equipment includes a 30 million candlepower
"Night Sun" to increase effectiveness.
Moving Map Technology allows the observer to locate and track
the exact location of the helicopter and ground units. Guided
by Satellite GPS, this system also helps in providing distance,
eta and containment information.
Multiple Radio Communications Technology allows the air crew
to transmit on multiple frequencies. This is especially useful
during natural disasters and multi-agency operations.
Video Downlink Systems are available to broadcast to a central
emergency operations center. High power camera and viewing
equipment also allows the observer to view objects far below.
Lo-Jack stolen vehicle locater allows the air crew to assist
ground units locate stolen vehicles and apprehend suspects.
This air
crew flies the skies of Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley
nightly and the highly trained crew, coupled with the advanced
equipment listed above provide another excellent resource
for the Community.
