   Brief History:
On Saturday, June 14, 1997, Sheriff Sherman Block joined Mayor Harold Hofmann, the Lawndale City Council, and a host of local residents to dedicate the new Sheriff's Service Center. Following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, local officials and residents were treated to a visual potpourri of informational displays provided by a variety of community-based organizations and specialized units from the Sheriff's Department.

Formerly a vacant Senior Center, the refurbished facility, which took six months to complete, is now the primary source for law enforcement services in the City of Lawndale. Approximately 29 Sheriff's Department employees, civilian and sworn, are working out of the new location. Several programs, currently based at Lennox Sheriff's Station, will now also be operating out of the Lawndale facility.
Sheriff Block stated that "Volunteers on Patrol, Neighborhood Watch, and other community-based programs will be based in the communities they serve, Furthermore," he continued, "this new facility improves local access to law enforcement services in the City of Lawndale." Residents will be able to file crime reports, hold volunteer meetings, coordinate community activities, and obtain advice or instructions at a location much closer to home.
