Community
Resource Deputies (CO.RE.) |
The
overarching objective of the CO.RE. Team is to provide neighborhoods
with deputies that have flexibility to direct their resources
to community issues over longer periods of time. Their general
objectives include continuity, consistency, and commitment to
resolving Quality of Life issues that are not easily addressed
by patrol units. The ultimate goal is to improve Quality of
Life in our communities by pro-actively intervening when youth
need help, rather than reacting after they get into trouble.
The area of responsibility is not limited to school but also
parks, shopping centers, businesses and other locations that
are frequented by youths. The team conducts civil and criminal
abatements as well as truancy sweeps. The team is comprised
of four deputies and supervised by one sergeant. This unique
approach to Community Oriented Policing was named as one of
the top 50 Police programs in the United States. For further
information, please contact Sgt. Dave Rozas at (310) 891-3227.

RESERVES |
Reserves
deputies are an integral part of the Lomita Station family.
Reserves deputies are part-time volunteer law enforcement officers.
They complete state mandated training and work assignments on
weekends and as their regular jobs permit. Reserve Deputies
enjoy the challenge and excitement offered by law enforcement,
as well as the satisfaction of providing a worthwhile community
service. Each Reserve is issued a badge, identification card,
handgun, and most necessary equipment. Reserve deputies have
full peace officer powers when on duty and may not carry a concealed
weapon off duty unless accompanied with a Special State issued
permit. For further information, please contact Sgt. Dave Rozas
at (310) 891-3227. |

BIRD
DOGS |
The
Bird Dogs are a civilian surveillance team sponsored by Lomita
Station. The team was formed in the early 1990's as a result
of an overwhelming caseload of the detective bureau. The Bird
Dogs volunteer many hours to assist Station personnel in grueling
stakeouts, traffic control, and a host of community events.
The teams success has been a positive influence upon the community.
The team is trained in surveillance tactics, following suspects,
and driving skills. The team is supervised by sworn deputy personnel.
This team has been very successful and have been responsible
for the capture of numerous felony suspects. The team has approximately
20 members. For further information, contact deputy Rich Johnson
at (310) 891-3218 . |

P.E.R.T.
- Peninsula Emergency Response Team |

The P.E.R.T.
team is a Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT). The idea
was developed by the LA City Fire Department in 1985, when
the fire department recognized that citizens would very likely
be on their own during the early stages of a catastrophic
disaster. The P.E.R.T. team is trained to be effective first
responders that will fan out into the community and handle
emergency functions immediately after a disaster. Individuals
are trained to extinguish small fires, turn off natural gas,
and water, perform light search and rescue, and render basic
first aid. For further information, please contact Sgt. Dave
Rozas at (310) 891-3227.
