Explorers:

Deputy Explorers are young individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. The Cerritos Station Explorer Post consist of 13 young men and women who are dedicated and trained to assist in non-hazardous duties which include; patrol ride-alongs, public fingerprinting, report writing, search missions, competitions and several other support type duties. Explorers are between the ages of 15 and 21 years of age. They must attain at least a "C" average or better in school and must be of good moral character.

After meeting the basic requirements, Deputy Explorers attend a training academy at one of the counties four sites. The academy consists of approximately 180 hours of instruction over a period of 18 weeks on Saturdays. They are taught subjects in police procedures, weaponless defense, criminal law and narcotics training.
